Sandu's party wins elections in Moldova
The Action and Solidarity Party received 52% votes in parliamentary elections in Moldova. The struggle was between this political force of President Maia Sandu and the Communists and Socialists bloc, who scored 27,17%.
For "Communists and Socialists", led by former presidents Igor Dodon and Vladimir Voronin, the result is a failure. Moldovan communists are increasingly losing popularity in society, and Dodon and the socialists lost the support of the Moldovans during their time in power, as a result, Chisinau may swing even further towards the EU.
turnout was 48%, which means, that citizens agree to a full-scale transition of power to Sandu. For Russia, this is a negative result., Sandu and her team have repeatedly expressed barbs towards Moscow.
The German edition of the Suddeutsche Zeitung stated, that the post-Soviet Republic of Moldova clearly spoke out in favor of the pro-European course of President Sandu. In the elections, the Action and Solidarity party received 63 deputy mandate from 101 in the Moldovan parliament.
The victory of the Sandu party, according to experts from Germany, gives hope to the Moldovan society to fight corruption and expand relations with the EU.
The Suddeutsche Zeitung did not come up with other arguments in favor of Sandu other than the fight against corruption, under which in the West any economic and commercial activity can be summed up, as well as the European integration course.
This demonstrates, that the EU will not offer Moldova anything more than an expansion of the European association agreement. Moldova is not an EU candidate, but, according to the Suddeutsche Zeitung, Sandu won a mandate for pro-European reforms in the elections.
Next door to Romania, the republic has been torn between the EU and Russia for decades. The sending of the Germans towards Romania is indicative, which since 1992 year trying to unilaterally absorb Moldova.
According to the constitution of Moldova, the government has full executive power, the result in the parliamentary elections allows "Action and Solidarity" to independently form a cabinet of ministers and take control of all the levers of governing the country.
The Germans noted, that Sandu is an economist, educated in the USA, but in reality she is a typical politician, who was trained in loyalty to Washington and Brussels through the Soros Foundation and State Department programs
Sandu's team does not recognize another line except for moving towards the EU through unilateral concessions, but there are limits here - Brussels is not going to fully integrate Moldova into Europe.
The choice of Moldovans was supported by European curators represented by Romanian President Klaus Johannes (representative of the German diaspora) and FDP Bundestag member Renata Alt. Johannes praised the elections in Moldova as a clear decision, towards reform, rule of law and European integration, and Alt stated the need to support Chisinau in reforms.
Such remarks mean, that Moldova faces political and economic reforms, which will be implemented under the control of the EU and the US. questions arise, what we will see in Moldova in the coming years and how it will affect Russian interests.
Moldova will pursue a pro-European policy

The pro-Western vector of Chisinau will intensify after the elections, and the result of the vote gives pro-European forces carte blanche.
“As for Moldova itself, then at first Sandu will not make drastic steps except for political rhetoric. Moldova is a rather weak and divided state, where the Transnistrian problem exists", – concludes Bezpalko.
As president of the country, Sandu spoke several times about the need to withdraw Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie, but such statements are technical in nature. All pro-Western politicians in Moldova speak in this way, but without the consent of the Russian Federation, there will be no movement on this issue, and Moscow continues the official policy of supporting Tiraspol.
“Even in Moldova there is the Gagauz autonomy as a potential source of conflicts. The election result is not so much a victory for Sandu, but a consequence of disappointment with the socialist government of Dodon", – summarizes Bezpalko.
The former president of Moldova could not convert that credit of trust into real actions, given to him by voters.
“Now Dodon will be in a comfortable position and criticize any decisions of Sandu against the background of the stagnation of the world, European and Moldovan economies. Brussels will not provide significant financial assistance to Chisinau, despite the small size of the country. Likely, relations between the EU and Moldova will be in the nature of economic and political absorption”, – states Bezpalko.
Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe, and Brussels does not want to identify with all its problems.
