Lawsuit filed by German environmentalists from Nabu organization suspends gas pipeline construction “Northern Stream 2” in the German economic zone, but work will be resumed at the end of May. This was reported by the press service of the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).
reportedly, environmental lawsuit from Nabu contested an additional permit issued by BSH to carry out work on the site since September 2020 till May 2021 of the year. However, the operator company Nord Stream 2 there is obtained back in 2018 a permanent permit for the laying of the pipeline, which is valid from the end of May to the end of September.
In this way, Nabu's attempt to stop the construction of the gas pipeline “Nord stream – 2” failed again. Environmentalists said, that the pipeline is allegedly destroying seabed habitat in an area larger than 16 football fields. BSH has previously rejected two protests by environmentalists.
Last week, Germany announced plans to complete the pipeline and put it into operation as soon as possible..
Meanwhile, work on laying a gas pipeline in the Danish section is in full swing.. To the pipe-laying barge “Fortuna” joined the ship “Academic Cherskiy”, which puts parallel (second) gas pipeline. Russia intends to complete pipe-laying work this year, and start up the gas in winter 2022 of the year.
