A little history. Sometime in the twentieth century, after World War II, a large country of the USSR decided to build a railway branch through Abkhazia, Georgia and further to the East. First of all, economic feasibility was taken into account. In those days, it was profitable to deliver coal to the addressees., oil, ore, forest from the Transcaucasian republics by cheap rail.

Today, after all the known events in Transcaucasia, Abkhazia came up with an initiative to resume railway communication with Georgia through the republic, further with Armenia, Azerbaijan and it is possible - with Turkey, Iran, etc.. Need to mark, such a political step from the Abkhaz side can only be welcomed.

In fact, this important question, as a policy tool, economy, it should have risen even earlier and often at government levels, at any meetings, held in Abkhazia, Russia, Geneva. Now this question is also not late in its meaning.. Moreover, at the level of the deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, interest has been shown and support has been given. We must continue and very quickly, but carefully, as the initiators themselves, to develop a project for the revival of railway transit through Abkhazia.

A transit rail link through Abkhazia is a good start, among other things, such a road will benefit in everything, from a large number of jobs to revitalizing social life, and naturally, profit. Everything will depend on, which side will do it: restore the infrastructure of the entire railway track in Abkhazia, provide uninterrupted electricity and diesel, and of course, high-quality preservation of everything, what will be transported through the RA. If an agreement is reached on all parties, then each of them, as is customary in an open normal business, will have its own income from transit.

The main partner - Russia and interested countries - Georgia should familiarize themselves with this project on the Abkhaz railway, Armenia, Azerbaijan. If the project comes true, then the rest of the East and Turkey will catch up.

In fact, it is necessary to hold an international conference with countries, interested in such a project. Already at the first meeting of all parties it will be immediately clear, how the big railway business is implemented. At least, who is interested in transit, and are there serious, mutually beneficial compromises in big politics. It would be very good to take the preparation for such a conference under the control of the republic itself., and be sure to involve our strategic partner. He has a stronger influence on the world., plus experience.

Unfortunately, the problem is also "territorial". Georgia has always in this matter did not want to admit the Republic of Abkhazia as an independent unit and as an equal party. She remains on her fictional perception of Abkhazia, as its "original" territory. And in this he finds understanding of his Western friends, that, undoubtedly, from behind the scenes they will manage the issues of transit through the RA.

But Abkhazia is not afraid of it, and at the moment the republic as a sovereign country, makes a bold step. It remains to clearly calculate the results of the conceived. The prestige of the state depends on it, ability to participate in global world projects, and for RA this is also an important factor.
