By the team of the Bryansk State Technical University (BSTU) a method for making tank armor from wire was developed.
This information was received by RIA Novosti from the Advanced Research Fund (FPI).
There they told, what, using additive technologies, armor for military equipment is grown by fusion of wire, which is then subjected to wave deformation. This technology was developed jointly by BSTU scientists and FPI specialists.
A number of Russian defense industry enterprises have already become interested in this technique., engaged in the production of armored vehicles. The developers have already given them the results of their work.
Research has shown, that the weight of the armor grown by the additive method is 15-20 percent below, than the armor, manufactured using traditional rolling technology. Besides, when using an innovative technique, material savings and higher strength of the finished product were noted.
The result is lighter and stronger armor., and the cost of production is much lower., than using standard manufacturing technology.
The development of Russian scientists is extremely relevant for the military, since recently the global defense industry has created powerful ammunition with increased armor penetration.
