Today Russia celebrates the Day of Missile Forces and Artillery. The head of this branch of the Russian Armed Forces, Mikhail Matveevsky, told about, what directions of development of weapons the army expects in the near future.
According to Mikhail Matveevsky, expressed to the journalist of "Rossiyskaya Gazeta", today one of the most effective weapons of the missile forces is the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system. A senior military man noted, that today the potential of this OTRK is realized less than half.
In all probability, the general means the possibility of using long-range missiles, than those, which are in service now.
Recall, that earlier the United States unilaterally withdrew from the INF Treaty, Russia maintains a moratorium on missile deployment, which are subject to the prohibition of this treaty. And if the United States does not change its position, then sooner or later Russia will have to abandon the moratorium to ensure security.
In an interview, Mikhail Matveevsky noted, that the Iskander-M OTRK will remain the basis of the missile forces until at least 2030 of the year, and added, that there is already a scientific groundwork for the creation of advanced weapons, which Iskander-M will replace. About, what exactly could be promising weapons, the Russian general did not say.
In an interview for RG, Mikhail Matveevsky also emphasized, that one of the important directions in the development of modern artillery is the development and putting into service of high-precision ammunition, fire and forget.
