Pictures of an Israeli tank appeared on the web “Merkava” with a torn off gun barrel. Photos of the tank with this damage were published on the Twitter account of The Dead District.
Where were these pictures taken and when not reported. In the comments to the photo, it was suggested, that the pictures were taken in 2006 year during the military conflict between Israel and Lebanon (second Lebanese war). It is assumed, that in one of the battles in the gun “believe” hit by a Lebanese anti-tank missile, fired from an ATGM by one of the Hezbollah fighters. During the return shot, the tank's cannon exploded due to previously received damage, but no one from the crew was hurt. Later the tank was repaired and continued to serve..
It is also suggested, that the tank's gun could be damaged later, currently, eg, in the Gaza Strip for any reason.
For our part, we note, that most likely we are talking about a war with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in 2006 year.
Tank “Merkava” was adopted by the Israel Defense Forces in 1979 year. The tank designers paid great attention to the protection of the crew., therefore, this tank is considered one of the most protected in the world. Currently tanks “Merkava” equipped with Trophy active protection complexes, significantly increasing the already good defense.
