Not so long ago, the Central Research Institute "Burevestnik", which is developing a promising self-propelled artillery gun as part of the development work "Sketch", presented the appearance of his "brainchild". This is a self-propelled artillery gun, whose name is designated as "Malva".
Realized project SAO 2S43, as stated, based on 152 mm 2A64 gun. At the same time, in the mode of providing open data about the project,, that "it is possible to install and upgraded versions of the gun".
The attention of experts was drawn to the fact, that "Malva" is made on a wheeled chassis. In this regard, the conversation turned to a peculiar trend, under which new and promising SAOs in different armies of the world (HEALTHY) created specifically on platforms with a wheel formula. In the case of Malva, this is an 8x8.1 option. We are talking about the platform of the Bryansk Automobile Plant BAZ-6910 of the so-called 20th series. According to some reports, we can talk specifically about the modification of four-axle platforms from BAZ, with which, eg, electronic warfare complex "Krasukha-2".
In the case of the Malva, they preferred to abandon the platform option from the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant in favor of the option from the Bryansk manufacturers.
In this regard, the issue of, why, for the latest domestic artillery self-propelled guns, it was the wheeled chassis that was chosen.
There are several versions of the answer to this question.. The main one is related to, that with the linear dimensions of the gun, it is the wheeled platform that makes it possible to maintain an acceptable mass of the entire artillery complex. "Plant" 2A64 on a tracked platform - in fact, get a second 42-ton self-propelled guns "Msta-S". The wheeled chassis makes it possible to reduce the overall weight of this self-propelled artillery weapon. (AOC), moreover, according to the official website of the Bryansk Automobile Plant, 8x8.1 platforms allow movement on all types of roads and terrain. I.e, wheeled platform does not mean that, which will significantly reduce the cross-country ability of self-propelled guns. Weight loss is also an increase in speed, what is not less important, if "Malva" needs to be transferred in a short time to one or another site of the operation.
