Moscow, 22 July. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with his Algerian counterpart Sabri Bukadum, According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Discussed the results of joint trade and economic activities of the two countries, military-technical partnership issues, agreements on the peaceful uses of outer space, opportunities for cultural cooperation and the current situation in Libya.
A press conference was held following the meeting, where the heads of the diplomatic departments of the two countries spoke and answered questions from journalists.
The parties summed up the results of joint work in different areas. The effectiveness of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was noted. It contributes to the sustainable growth of trade, although economic activity was low in the first half of this year due to the effects of coronavirus infection. Russian and Egyptian foreign ministers discussed measures, which will allow to return and improve previous indicators using projects in the investment field, in the field of energy, Agriculture, transport, pharmaceuticals.
The parties positively assessed the work of another intergovernmental structure - the commission on military-technical cooperation. Its next meeting is scheduled for the second half of this year..
During the negotiations, it was also possible to discuss agreements on the peaceful uses of outer space., fight against organized crime, creation of cultural centers of Algeria in Russia and Russia in Algeria, as well as mutual recognition of educational documents.
Agreement between the two countries is also observed in solving international problems.. Both states advocate the settlement of any contradictions exclusively by peaceful, politico-diplomatic way. Resolving the crises in the Middle East and North Africa requires reaching a dialogue between the conflicting parties based on a compromise and balance of interests. The foreign ministers of Russia and Algeria think, that this is the approach that applies to the Syrian crisis, Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the situation in Mali and in general in the Sahel, as well as the Libyan crisis, which received special attention.
Lavrov stressed, that Russia and Algeria consider the only correct implementation of those agreements, which are contained in the final documents of the Berlin conference on Libya, approved by the UN Security Council. The document clearly states the steps, which are necessary to resolve the Libyan crisis.
Russia considers immediate cessation of hostilities most important. Restoring sovereignty, territorial integrity and statehood of Libya, which were actually destroyed as a result of NATO actions in 2011 year in violation of the UN Security Council resolution, is the ultimate goal of the Russian authorities in this matter. The head of the Russian diplomatic department said, what the current situation in the country requires, for Libyans to negotiate a solution to the crisis.
At the end of the press conference, the Russian Foreign Minister noted, that Algeria, like the Russian Federation, works with all Libyan political forces without exception. It is in this, according to Lavrov, the key to the success of the future solution of this problem.
