In the Big Stone of Primorsky Krai at the shipbuilding complex “star” construction of the project’s lead large linear nuclear icebreaker started 10510 (LK-120YA, code “Leader”). Icebreaker steel cutting ceremony held 6 July in the block of hull production “Stars”.
Contract for the construction of the lead nuclear icebreaker of the Leader project”, known as “Russia”, was signed between the shipbuilding complex “star” and FGUP “Atomflot” 23 April 2020 of the year. The state customer of the icebreaker is the State Corporation “Rosatom”. The first icebreaker of the project 10510 will go into operation in 2027 year. All three icebreakers of this project must enter service before 2033 of the year.
As previously reported, in total, it is planned to build three icebreakers of the new project. In January of this year, the Russian government allocated for the construction of the lead icebreaker in the period from 2020 by 2027 years from the federal budget 127,576979 billion rubles. Funds have not yet been found for the construction of two other icebreakers in the series., but there is still time, their bookmark is scheduled for 2023 year.
Icebreakers “Leader” will be designed for year-round pilotage of large-capacity cargo ships along the Northern Sea Route.
According to the project, the total displacement of the new icebreakers will be 71,4 thousand tons at length 209 m, width 47,7 meters and height 20,3 m. The vessel will receive two RITM-400 nuclear reactors with a capacity 120 megawatt on screws and heat output 315 megawatt each.
According to the project developers from the St. Petersburg Central Design Bureau “Iceberg”, icebreaker “Leader” can reach speeds up to 24 knots in clear water and up to 12 knots on ice up to 2 m. Maximum overcome ice thickness – 4 m. The service life of such an icebreaker is designed for 40 years. Crew – 127 human. The autonomy of the icebreaker in terms of provisions will be 8 months.
