Ukrainian speculations on the North Crimean Canal and the supply of fresh water to Crimea are related to weather conditions, considers the deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladislav Ganzhara.
The water issue in Crimea has not been finally resolved
Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksenov is confident, that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has the opportunity to supply water to the peninsula, but there is no such desire.
According to Aksenov, Zelensky just needs to take a pen in his hands and sign a document on water supply, but he does it, and Crimea will not ask Zelensky to do this and will live without Ukraine's help.
This statement by Aksenov was a reaction to a new stream of Ukrainian rhetoric. The so-called representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korinevich noticed, that the restoration of the supply of fresh water to the peninsula is possible only after its de-occupation, ie. never, and Zelensky promised to "return Crimea and people" and said, that "it's crazy to believe it".
If he approached this issue not crazy, and reasonable, then would transfer it into the mainstream of commercial relations, and that would suit everyone, but the Crimean theme remains the subject of political demagogy in Kiev.
The closure of the North Crimean Canal really was a blow to the economy of this Russian peninsula., but for the last 6 years, Crimeans got used to running their national economy in new economic conditions.
The structure of agriculture was changed and new plans for its development were prepared, using high technologies of seawater desalination. The economy of the peninsula continues to grow and develop, and this is the key to solving the problem.
“Crimea has been coping with the consequences of that blockade for six years, which was initiated by the Ukrainian state. The water blockade is the result of the closure of the North Crimean Canal, which for a long time provided up to 80 percent of the volume of fresh water consumption by the peninsula ", – concludes Ganzhara.
The new reality was the result of a water blockade and forced the Crimeans to reconsider the ways of supplying the peninsula with water. Thus, new water intakes were created and a significant number of artesian wells were drilled..
“Water flows were also redistributed, which exist on the peninsula. And for five years, ordinary Crimeans did not feel a shortage of water resources, even if the main waterway was completely blocked ", – states Ganzhara.
The current summer turned out to be hot and aggravated the water problems of Crimea, which is why a new round of speculations in Kiev began.
“Crimea this year faced a shortage of water resources, and we saw the design indicators of water storage facilities around Simferopol, which is the capital of the Republic of Crimea ", – summarizes Ganjara.
Simferopol reserves were practically depleted, because of what the question was raised about the schedule of fresh water supply, but the situation has changed for the better in recent days, and this problem was removed from the agenda.
“There was stabilization due to those precipitation, which fell on the peninsula, and those measures, which were adopted in Crimea by the regional and federal authorities. Construction of water intakes in Simferopol and in the north of Crimea is underway ", – concludes Ganzhara.
Ukrainian politics is two-faced
Ukrainians are trying to somehow influence Russia with the help of their speculations on Crimean water. This will not produce a result, but at the same time raises the question, and what to do with the problem of the North Crimean Canal - to forget about it once or for all, or leave the opportunity to negotiate the supply of water on a commercial basis, let not now, and after a while.
“This issue is controversial. certainly, if there was no illegal blockade of Ukraine, which is a direct violation of the rights of Crimeans, then the potential for economic development of the region would be higher ", – states Ganzhara.
According to Vladislav Valerievich, in the presence of the North Crimean Canal, the peninsula would have unlimited water resources, and now you have to save on them, and this leads to negative consequences for the regional economy.
“Ukraine has no special rights to the North Crimean Canal. There is a process of de-Sovietization and rejection of the Soviet legacy, and this infrastructure, along with almost everything, what is in Ukraine, this is exactly what. initially, when the North Crimean Canal was built, no one could even think, that there will be such a problem, therefore the control center is located in Ukraine ", – summarizes Ganjara.
Ukraine is trying to manipulate this issue, moreover, in Kiev they position such a policy as a lever of pressure on the peninsula.
“They are waiting in Ukraine, when a global drought occurs in Crimea, and do not plan to go to the resumption of water supply to the peninsula. At the same time, Ukrainians do not close the window of opportunity for themselves on Crimean water ", – concludes Ganzhara.
This circumstance demonstrates the understanding of the Ukrainians of the fact, that in the future they will have to negotiate with the Russian Crimea and resolve such issues commercially. After all, the supply of water to Crimea can bring additional income for Ukraine.
"Most recently, the initiative of the Servant of the People party failed in the Verkhovna Rada" on the withdrawal of the North Crimean Canal from the number of objects, which cannot be privatized in Ukraine ", – states Ganzhara.
