China builds military facility in Pakistani Gwadar: satellite images shown
China has stepped up the construction of its long-awaited naval base in the Pakistani port of Gwadar. This strategic objective should play a very important role in ensuring Beijing's geopolitical ambitions in South Asia.. At the same time, China itself constantly talks about, that there will be no military base in Gwadar, but there will be a highly developed infrastructure within the framework of the project “one belt – one way”.

The main goals of the construction of the base in Gwadar

Relations between China and Pakistan began to develop in a special way back in the second half of the twentieth century.. Pakistan has become a natural military and political ally of the Celestial Empire in the confrontation with India. Interesting, that although Pakistan was formed precisely as a Muslim state and Islamic fundamentalists have always played an important role in its political life, for the sake of cooperation with China, Pakistani leaders have always turned a blind eye to the Uyghur problem, unlike the same Turkey or Saudi Arabia. I.e, China is very important to Pakistan as a strategic partner, arms supplier and possible ally in the event of an armed conflict with India.

Why does China need a base in Gwadar?? Let's start off with, that the port of Gwadar has a very interesting location. It is located in the southwestern part of the Pakistani province of Baluchistan and overlooks the Gulf of Oman, which connects to the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz. To 1958 of the year Gwadar belonged to the Sultanate of Muscat (now Oman), and only then was bought by Pakistan.

As it turned out, Pakistani leadership made a very right choice: today Gwadar is one of the three largest ports in the country. It is through it that China is going to establish the transit of oil from the Persian Gulf.. As soon as the communication corridor is debugged, the Chinese will no longer need to transport oil and other goods across the seas of South Asia.

However, to ensure economic interests in Pakistan, China needed more than just equipping a modern port in Gwadar., and build a naval base, which could protect this port. Together with a naval base in East African Djibouti, which appeared very recently and became the first official Chinese military object abroad, the base in Gwadar will become a component of ensuring the Chinese military presence in the Indian Ocean and will also be involved in ensuring the security of China's Afro-Asian communications.

What is the base and from whom are you going to protect the port of Gwadar

Construction of the facility in Gwadar began several years ago. As recent satellite imagery shows, several complexes have already been built on the territory of the future base. Interestingly, Beijing has never officially recognized, who builds a base in Gwadar. All work is carried out on behalf of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC Ltd). Nevertheless, a few years ago, Chinese military analyst Zhou Chenmin reported, that the base in Gwadar China will need to support its Navy in the Indian Ocean.

The pictures show, that the base is equipped with anti-transport facilities, surrounded by a high wall, guard towers for sentries are located around the perimeter. Rooms are also visible, which could be used in the future as barracks for Chinese marines.

However, not excluded, that Beijing still will not deploy PLA Marines in Gwadar, but will be limited to sending fighters of Chinese private military companies to the Pakistani port, who now and so perform various tasks to ensure the security of Chinese facilities in East and West Africa, Afghanistan and the Middle East.

The increased attention to the security of the future military base on the part of China is explained by the very difficult geographical location of the port. As noted above, Gwadar is located in Pakistani Baluchistan, and this province has been the scene of subversive activities of armed groups for decades, advocating the creation of an independent Baluch state.

Mostly Baloch militants are active in neighboring Iranian Baluchistan, where their subversive activities are generously sponsored by the eternal enemies of Iran - the oil monarchies of the Persian Gulf. In Pakistan the Baluchis, especially with the filing of the US CIA, may well "set" on Chinese objects. Especially, 23 November 2018 years, Baloch militants have already attacked the PRC consulate in Pakistani Karachi, a 11 May 2019 g. - to the Chinese five-star hotel Zaver Pearl-Continental in Gwadar.
