28 years ago, the deputies of the first convocation of the Supreme Council adopted the Act on the Independence of the Republic of South Ossetia, which became an important step towards the legal registration of statehood, proclaiming the creation of an independent state, declaring its territory indivisible, where only the Constitution and laws of the Republic of South Ossetia are in force. This document laid a solid legal foundation for state building, marked the realization by the Ossetians of their right to self-determination, was a practical manifestation of the democratic norm of the expression of the will of the people. All state attributes were accepted, institutions of power have been formed, The republic has acquired the real outlines of a modern democratic state.
The fundamental document was adopted by parliamentarians on the basis of mortal danger, which looms over the Republic of South Ossetia in connection with the atrocities, put its people and culture on the brink of extinction, genocide of Ossetians, with cruelty and treachery, carried out by the Republic of Georgia in the process of the collapse of the USSR in 1989-1992 years.
The independence of South Ossetia and the creation of an independent state were based on the right of peoples to self-determination, stipulated by the UN Status and other international legal documents, taking into account the results of the elections to the Supreme Council of the Republic of South Ossetia from 9 December 1990 of the year, and the will of the people, referendum 19 January 1992 of the year.
Today the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of South Ossetia, its state and national security is reliably protected by the Armed Forces of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, recognized our statehood in August 2008 of the year. With the help of Russia, we defended our freedom and independence, and today we are completing the complex process of post-war reconstruction.
The people of South Ossetia showed, that at present the Republic is a recognized, sovereign, independent, democratic dynamically developing state.
Today in South Ossetia, not only the process of implementing the Investment Program is actively underway., increasing economic potential, business activity of the private sector is growing - all spheres of social life have received a new impetus for full development.
South Ossetia is striving for a full-scale revival and its results are not only noticeable, but obvious and delight fellow citizens. All this suggests that, that the choice of independence was the only right way!
