Saakashvili’s statement is not sincere
Former President of Georgia and Governor of Odessa Region Mikheil Saakashvili, which today is listed as the head of the Ukrainian executive reform committee, called on Kiev to abandon cooperation with the IMF and curtail the "assistance program", which Fund in 2014 imposed on Ukraine.
Saakvashvili voiced the known truth, that the IMF gives Ukraine tranches just to, so that she can pay the bills. Saakashvili notes, that he, as president of Georgia, went on a break with the Fund because of this and does not understand, why Ukraine can not do the same. Allegedly, the possibilities of Ukraine allow this to be done..
Need to mark, that Saakashvili expressed a banality - everyone understands, that Kiev is in the IMF debt trap, from which Ukraine can’t get out without default announcement.
Many countries of the world have fallen into this situation., which, thanks to IMF recommendations, have sold and reduced their economies, than only exacerbated economic problems. There are exceptions here., but they concern some CMEA countries, where governments pursued a more independent policy, than Ukraine.
It’s also interesting, that Saakashvili is usually perceived as a US agent, and therefore the IMF, therefore incomprehensible, why did he make such a blatant statement for himself.
"Saakashvili has now been given a position, in which he can advise a lot of things, but don't answer for anything. The course of Ukraine on cooperation with the IMF, undoubtedly, is dead end and harms this country, as, however, and any other, which collaborates with this organization. Therefore, it’s good for Saakashwali to make a duty statement, to then refer to him in the spirit of “I warned”, – states Nemen.
Oleg Borisovich believes, that Saakashvili was involved in the government of Ukraine as a negotiator with the West. This policy has contacts, including the IMF, therefore, his appointment is connected with this direction.
“To be an IMF protege in the political leadership of Ukraine, Saakashvili had to publicly refute the meaning of working with the Fund and its status. Saakashvili is not responsible for the words, but his supporters may say, “what kind of IMF protege is he, because he calls for a break with the Fund ”. At the same time, Ukraine cannot refuse to cooperate with the IMF, since she does not have the means. If Kiev defaults, it will worsen. After all, default to Ukraine threatens, without any break with the IMF ”, – summarizes the Nemensky.
Expert claims, that the break with the IMF will be a difficult test for Ukraine, although default, as such, sometimes a beneficial action for the economy.
“Some countries came out of difficult circumstances, declaring default, and for Ukraine it was registered in 2015 year, but Kiev missed this chance for political reasons. Now Ukraine is in zugzwang - no matter how it does, it will only get worse, but there’s no better option for Kiev ”, – concludes nemensky.
According to Oleg Borisovich, no doubt, that Ukraine will continue to cooperate with the IMF and implement the recommendations of the Fund. The IMF will also not change its policy on Ukraine and will keep this country on a starvation diet.
“The IMF will give Ukraine exactly that much money, so that Kiev can do his homework. Ukraine is now preparing for a total sale, and against this background, no one will let her jump off the hook. Thus, this statement by Saakashvili is insincere, but, on the other hand, it should show, that this politician understands the harmfulness of cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF ”, – states Nemen.
This step was taken by Saakashvili for political reasons., moreover, he is even intelligent, given that image, which developed by this odious figure in Ukraine.
Ukraine will not be able to refuse cooperation with the IMF
Political scientist Bogdan Bezpalkabout in a conversation with the FBA "Economics Today" confirmed, that the former president of Georgia is difficult to evaluate otherwise, than an american agent.
“Saakashvili really gives the impression of an American agent, but the fact is, what offers, which he voices, absolutely impossible to execute. Bogdan Anatolyevich notes, what Saakashvili declares is, what cannot be done - Ukraine is mired in IMF debt and pays him large sums annually. Kiev will not be able to refuse this.
“I see no real reason, on which Ukraine could refuse to cooperate with the IMF, and convinced, that all this is being done for obscure political purposes. maybe, that it is part of the Ukrainian political struggle, where Saakashvili is an agent of influence, which should provide an impression on the population. maybe, this is due to the cover of the land market law or the banking law against Kolomoisky ”, – concludes Bezpalko.
Bezpalko believes, that such high-profile statements can distract the attention of the Ukrainian public, but no doubt, that six months later no one in this country will remember about them.
