However, the delay in the development of the latest fighter led to, that Boeing created a new version of the F-18 and in 2017 presented F / A-18 XT (Advanced Super Hornet), U.S. Navy F / A-18E / F Super Hornet Block-3. The command of the U.S. Navy decided to upgrade the entire fleet of Super Hornet fighters to a new modification. Besides 21 Martha 2019 US Navy signs new construction contract with Boeing 78 New F / A-18 Super Hornet Block-3 Fighters, aircraft must arrive before 2022 of the year. The first two fighters will be transferred to the Navy during May-June 2020 of the year, they will be involved in tests at Patuxent River Air Force Base and China Lake Aircraft Arms Center.
