The Norwegian Sea was chosen as the water area for the maneuvers - in its northern latitudes. In fact, we are talking about the water area, which is adjacent to the Norwegian-Russian maritime border in the area of the Norwegian and Barents Seas.
At the same time, American sources do not hide that, that the main objective of the exercises was the discovery of Russian submarines of the Northern Fleet.
In addition to the submarines of Britain and the United States for training “hunting” for submarines of the Russian Navy were sent to the Arctic region and several surface warships.
These are Arly Burke class destroyers – "Donald Cook" and "Porter" US Navy, USNS Supply service vessel, as well as the British frigate F78 HMS Kent.
