Taiwanese media published an interview with retired army lieutenant general Luo Jiyuan. The interview addressed the emerging relationship between Taipei and Beijing., and relations between Taipei and Washington.

My opinion today is, that a military conflict in the Taiwan Strait cannot be completely ruled out.
At the same time, a retired Taiwanese general made it clear, that he has no particular illusions in connection with the relations between Taiwan and the United States. Luo Jiyuan talks about, that there is no reason for the United States to support the island in the event of an armed conflict with China.

For the USA, we are only interested in those, that with our help it is possible to contain China. This is what I call the "Taiwan map" of the United States of America.. But that's just how these actions can help the people of our island?
General Luo Jiyuan urged authorities in Taipei to understand, that Taiwan – "a pawn in the US-China game".

If the United States is using someone to lure mainland China, then it will end up being Taiwan itself. And it can turn into a war.
At the same time, the retired general notes, that in such a situation, the Taiwanese army will have a hard time. According to him, there is no single ideology in the armed forces, there is no discipline and there are problems with combat power and the, that the current command considers it.
After such an interview, some Taiwanese experts accused the general of "incorrect interpretations" and "substitution of concepts and interests of the state".
