FAN correspondent visited the Syrian city of Maaret al-Numan liberated from militants, which is the second largest in the province of Idlib.
A couple of days ago, the Syrian government army regained control of this territory., having driven out the radical Islamists from the Jabhat al-Nusra group11, whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation. In addition to Maaret an-Numan, two other settlements were liberated - Wadi al-Deif and Al-Hamidia. Currently, the SAA soldiers are strengthening their positions in the eastern, northern and southern regions. Besides, Syrian government forces move west after the liberation of the city of Kafr Rum.
According to the journalist of the Federal News Agency, Damascus army liberated Maaret al-Numan and more 28 cities and villages, located in the south of the SAR. SAA forces continue to pursue the remaining terrorist groups in the region.
It is worth noting, that the town of Maaret al-Numan is important to armed groups in Idlib, since most of the militants were in it. They chose this area because of the geographical location, which gave a defensive military advantage.
