The Russian Ministry of Defense to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the capital of Latvia – Riga has opened a special section, which houses the declassified historical documents from the Central Archives of the military department funds. It is reported by the press service of the military department.
Defense Ministry opened a special site, having come on which, visitors can view declassified documents, relating to the liberation of the Latvian Soviet Republic from Nazi invaders. On this portal you can see the offensive plans, reports and summaries, newspaper publications and many other archival documents, showing a picture of the fighting for Riga in October 1944 of the year.
It should be noted, what in 1944 the year residents of Riga and other cities and towns of Latvia met the Soviet liberators with flowers and smiles, thanks for the liberation from hell of Nazi occupation.
However modern and “independent” Latvia does not intend to remember its history and honor Soviet soldiers, put their lives for its liberation from fascism. The current authorities declare, that no exemption in 1944 there wasn’t, but only the occupation power has changed, when the Soviet invaders replaced the German occupiers.
In July of this year, the Latvian Foreign Ministry issued an official appeal. in which he stated:
We would like to remind the world, that the freedom and independence of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia were restored to 45 years later, since the entry of the Red Army meant the resumption of Soviet occupation
Despite the protest of the Latvian authorities, celebrations in honor of Soviet soldiers will be held in Russia, liberated 75 years ago the Latvian Soviet Republic. 13 October, on the day of liberation of Riga, Moscow will host a fireworks display, dedicated to this event.
