Soviet tank KV-1 during the Great Patriotic War was found on the border with Ukraine in the Rostov region. The remains of the crew of a heavy combat vehicle were found inside the tank. This RIA Novosti.
It is assumed, that the tank was lost in the summer 1943 years during the breakthrough of the German defense during the offensive operation of the Southern Front. Head of the search association "Mius-Front", whose members made a find, Andrey Kudryakov expressed his opinion, that the parts found indicate, that the tank was first blown up by an anti-tank mine, and then was destroyed by enemy aircraft.
According to preliminary information, the KV-1 tank was part of the 62nd Heavy Breakthrough Tank Brigade and was lost during the action 18 August 1943 of the year. Documents indicate, that on that day German air strikes deprived the brigade of fifteen vehicles.
Heavy tank KV-1 got its name in honor of the party leader of the Soviet Union Kliment Voroshilov. The tank was equipped with a 76mm cannon and was produced from August. 1939 to August 1942 of the year.
