Development of a single Soviet tiltrotor "Mi-30" began in 1972 year.
It was a collection of aircraft and helicopter - equipped with two screw engines, the ability to alter the thrust vector. This allows the unit to perform vertical takeoff and landing, and in high-altitude flight, have the speed, comparable to the screw plane. At the head of the project was the designer MN. Tishchenko.
Initially as an engine intended to use two forced unit "TVZ-117". "Mi-30" with its own weight, 10,5 t been able to take up to two tonnes of payload, but then it was decided to increase the capacity up to 5 tonnes. Consequently, the tiltrotor supply increased by five tons, and the diameter of the screws - with 11 to 12,5 m.
AT 1981 it was decided to create an even more ambitious version of the mass in the 30 tonnes. On tiltrotor planned to install two turboshaft engine D-136 total capacity 20000 HP. To 1986 , the designer selects the most optimal parameters of screws.
As a result, it was designed with three tiltrotor carrying capacity in 950 kg, 2500 kg and 3200 kg. Last it was equipped with two engines AL-34 on a special fuel, which are then used to design a unique ekranolota "EKIP".
Unfortunately, after the collapse of the USSR funding has decreased dramatically and promising project was forced to close. Only operating tiltrotor V-22 "Osprey" stands on the US arsenal.
