Why does Russia need a Chief Military Temple

Why does Russia need a Chief Military Temple

Today, one of the most important criteria for the development of the Russian army is the spiritual and moral factor. military, like no one, need to educate high moral ideals and the formation of fortitude.

TO 2020 2019, it is planned to build the Main Temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Patriot Park. The construction is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The initiative to create a unique temple complex belongs to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.

The main staircase of the future spiritual center will have a symbolic meaning - the steps of the temple will be cast from captured equipment of the Third Reich. The Ministry of Defense hastened to reassure historians: only weapons of the "fifth category" will be melted down, namely, faulty small arms, decommissioned ammunition and individual elements of armored vehicles and artillery installations, historical and cultural value of which is minimal.

Designed in Russian-Byzantine style, the temple is inextricably linked with the concept of spirituality of the Russian army. Throughout the history of the Russian state, the church and the army went hand in hand. Russian troops fought on the Kulikovo field under the banner with the image of Christ, with the icon of the Virgin Minin and Pozharsky liberated Moscow from foreign invaders.

In Tsarist Russia, since the time of Peter the Great, each military unit had its own priest and its own temple.. After the war 1812 a large number of temples were built, to perpetuate the feat and heroism of the Russian soldier and thank God and the saints for the victory. The ashes of Kutuzov lie in the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg, and Admirals Kornilov are buried in the Vladimir Cathedral in Sevastopol, Lazarev, Nakhimov and Istomin. Even the "atheist Bolsheviks" understood the power of faith in strengthening the military spirit: at 1941 year, on the orders of Stalin himself, a plane with a priest and an icon of the Virgin flew around the capital.

The main military temple will have several aisles. Each of them is in honor of the heavenly patron of one or another type of troops. Commander Alexander Nevsky - the patron saint of the ground forces, the prophet Elijah helps the fighters of the airborne forces and paratroopers, Andrew the First-Called - the patron saint of sailors, and the Great Martyr Barbara protects those, who serves in the missile forces.

The construction of the Main Temple of the Armed Forces is carried out at the expense of donations from citizens, including patrons, military personnel of the Russian Federation and all interested organizations. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu emphasized, that "donations from military personnel must be exclusively voluntary". In this way, the construction of the Main Military Temple revives the tradition of folk memorial cathedrals.

The main temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will become not only a memorial, educational-methodical and educational center, but also a symbol of the spirituality of the Russian soldier. After all, it was faith and patriotism that have always been a support for our soldiers., defending their native land at the cost of their own lives.

Comrade officers, it's all right! But we have been hearing this since September 2018. There is a calendar year left until the Victory Day and the full consecration of our Main Church. 9 may holiday will be held, so what is next – what and how? Which of the structures – The Ministry of Defense or the Russian Orthodox Church will take on the role of determining, organizing and responsible for the real life of the temple? Functions and tasks for the temple are defined, where is the team? Who will be the eldest in it? And where is the clergy of the temple and the rector? The team and the clear will have different tasks, though they should work together. The temple is unusual, although they give examples of military temples in Russia and in Moscow, for example the Cathedral of Christ the Savior or in St. Petersburg – Transfiguration, Izmailovsky cathedrals. The temple should be functionally unusual, but in order to fill this new functionality of it, you need to start working today, rather than assert, it's still early – no temple, no bells, no abbot. Comrade officers, nor the Minister of Defense, nor the Supreme Commander will understand us (to put it mildly), if 10 May 2020 the main temple will remain empty. Retired lieutenant colonel, BBV.
