A pair of Russian long-range bombers Tu-22M3 on Thursday carried out a planned flight over the Black Sea, According to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Russian Defense Ministry noted, that the flight of Tu-22M3 missile bombers took place in airspace over the neutral waters of Chernyi mine, the planes were in the air for more than five hours, having overcome during this time 4,5 thousands of kilometers.
The Ministry of Defense stressed, that the crews of long-range aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces regularly fly over the neutral waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, Black and Caspian seas, Pacific. All flights are conducted in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
Tu-22M3 – long-range supersonic missile-bomber with variable geometry wings, the modification was put into service in 1989 year. Designed to engage sea and ground targets at a distance of up to 2200 km from home airfields for guided missiles and aerial bombs. The aircraft is currently being upgraded to the Tu-22M3M version., during which the aircraft will receive new avionics, sighting and navigation system and other onboard equipment. The new version of the aircraft can carry X-32 cruise missiles and hypersonic missiles.
