The world is returning to the division into three camps, in the era of the Cold War

The last days were very rich in various UN resolutions. And on Thursday 15 November 2018 the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly presented a vote on the draft resolution, according to which Iran is declared a country, “where fundamental human rights are clearly not respected”, “the most important principles of democracy and freedom are grossly violated”, etc..

De jure the initiator of this resolution is Canada, however, it is quite clear, that the main de facto initiator is the southern Canadian neighbor.

General voting results: 85 countries still approved the adoption of this document, a 98 to one degree or another did not support this resolution (of them 68 states "abstained" and 30 voted against).

Мир возвращается к делению на три лагеря, как в эпоху холодной войны

This vote once again revealed among the UN member states three, well-defined camps, very clearly reminiscent of the situation during the Cold War.

Two camps opposed the initiative of the "North Atlantic hegemons". At first, traditionally pro-Russian, largely made up of states, previously supported the USSR: RF proper, India, China, Belarus, North Korea, Cuba, Armenia, Serbia, Bolivia, Cambodia, Burundi, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Vietnam.

Secondly, it is pro-Islamic and anti-American (Iran, Pakistan, Oman, Lebanon, Indonesia, Iraq, Eritrea, Syria, Afghanistan, Brunei). In some cases, the second camp merges with the first (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan; while Tajikistan modestly abstained, apparently hoping for transatlantic financial assistance).

Particularly surprising is the presence on the list as part of the Islamic camp among the countries, voted against, such, it would seem, completely pro-American puppet regimes, like Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. AND, of course, for India and Pakistan to vote the same, is also rare, which clearly speaks in favor of the new government of Pakistan (which, we remember, quite actively began to build de facto allied relations with Iran).

Abstention group, i.e., in fact, states that did not adopt the resolution, also consists of several blocks. At first, These are the Islamic countries of North Africa, Persian Gulf and other regions (Algeria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Egypt, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mauritania, Qatar, Tunisia). At the same time, many of them have very close and friendly ties with the EU and the USA., however, in this matter they went against the opinion of their Atlantic partners.

Secondly, most of the "abstentions" are the countries of "black Africa" (from Angola to Zambia). And thirdly, a large number of Latin American countries with some non-Islamic states in Asia and Oceania abstained from voting. In this way, by and large, the contours of this camp are reminiscent of a block of "non-aligned" countries of the Cold War era.

AND, finally, the initiators of the resolution are the modern "North Atlantic hegemons" with a significant bloc of European allies (B.C. from NATO countries), allies from Asia (Bahrain, OAE, Qatar etc.), and with individual states of Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Peru) with a traditionally strong pro-American orientation.

Besides, they are adjoined by a large block of small satellites of a wide range and protectorates on subsidies, from the Bahamas to Ukraine.

note, that during the discussion of this resolution, Bashar Al-Jafari, Syrian Ambassador to the UN, He stated, that this resolution is politically motivated and drafted in contradiction to the UN Charter.

Also, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, among other things, said, that such biased resolutions are not always useful tools for the protection of human rights.

Cuba's Permanent Representative to the UN also noted, that the adopted anti-Iranian resolution is just another fact, demonstrating double standards, used by the West, led by the United States, when taking into account human rights in a particular country.
