Kazakhstan gained access to the Russian GLONASS high precision signal, used for military purposes, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Aerospace Committee of the Ministry of Defense and the aerospace industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazkosmos).
As military expert Viktor Murakhovsky explained, high-precision GLONASS signal is used in the armed forces and serves to solve those problems, which were previously assigned to military topographers. Its range of application is very wide. – this is the guidance of high-precision weapons, and determining the location of enemy equipment and many more tasks, associated with the calculation of coordinates or movement routes. Unlike the civilian version of GLONASS, operating in latitude and longitude, military high-precision GLONASS provides accurate navigation data on altitude, while the deviation from the point will be minimal, different from normal signal, giving sometimes an error in 200-300 m.
It should be noted, that Kazakhstan has become just a third country, which Russia granted access to high-precision military GLONASS. Until then, access to “military” signal in 2010 received by India, and 2018 – Algeria.
