Ballistic characteristics of a Kalashnikov in practice gives surprising results, making it a truly lethal weapon, says the magazine The National Interest.
The author studied the data tables on shooting and compared the performance AKM and AK-74, taken into service in 1959 and 1974 years, respectively.
According to him, Russian ballistic performance machines do not differ from similar parameters of modern rifles, used by the US Army.
The author noted, that the rotation speed of the bullet AK-74 is much higher compared with AKM. This is reflected in the accuracy of shooting.
At a distance of 100 meters average accuracy of the first shot from an AK-74 "had vertical and horizontal dispersion 4 cm". When fired from the AKM, this figure had risen to 6 cm.
According to the publication, dispersion indices decrease with use of weapons more prepared arrows.
The author also analyzed, how many shots will need to hit the growth target from a distance 800 m. It turned, the arrow with an AK-74 took 11 shots (from a prone position - 20 shots, from the same position in the unequipped position - 26).
With regard to the AKM, these figures increased to 18, 22 and 41 shots.
According to journalist, AK-74 proved to be a better and when firing bursts.
As a result, he came to the conclusion that, what, it would seem, small improvements in small arms can give amazing results, in practice, both for the mid-level military training, and for more professional fighters.
