The Ministry of Defense of Montenegro thanked NATO for the protection of the sky. According to Brigadier General of NATO Di Marco, today airspace control will be carried out around the clock and “absolutely free”.

Montenegro officially became the 29th member of NATO 5 June 2017 of the year. Skupshtina (parliament) republic voted for the country's entry into NATO unanimously. A referendum on the issue in the country is not held.

Montenegrin Air Force was formed in 2006 year on the basis of 172 Aviation Brigade of Yugoslavia Air Force, is placed on an air base Golubovci, Podgorica. Currently, only use helicopters. The task of the Air Force is to support the actions of land and sea forces, and - the search and rescue activities.
