The first stage is over. floating power “Academician Lomonosov” I arrived in Murmansk

On Saturday, a floating nuclear power unit (PEB) "Akademik Lomonosov" came from the Baltic plant and stood at the quay wall in Murmansk for loading nuclear fuel.

The unit was delivered to the pier of FSUE “Atomflot”, which will host the connection of the shore power system and begin work on the painting of the vessel. Subsequently, at the same location will be effected loading of nuclear fuel and the physical power reactor start.

Первый этап пройден. Плавучий энергоблок "Академик Ломоносов" прибыл в Мурманск

This is not the final point in the launch of this project,, but the yield on the finish line. At the request of our foreign partners, we conducted a towing nuclear power without nuclear fuel on board to Murmansk and is run in the life of this unique, the world's only mobile nuclear power project - said at the ceremony, the head of the group “Rosatom” Alexei Likhachev, RIA Novosti.

The next important step will be the relocation of the loaded fuel PEB from Murmansk to Chukotka, the seaport of Pevek, which will connect to the PEB coastal infrastructure.

The power unit will be a major part of the world's first floating nuclear power plant (PATES) and provide electricity to the Chukotka Autonomous District, thereby replacing technologically obsolete power Bilibino NPP and Chaun TPP.

Floating power unit (PEB) “Academician Lomonosov” project 20870 - a parent project series mobile transportable units of low power. It is designed for operation in the floating nuclear power plant (PATES) and it represents a new class of energy sources on the basis of Russian nuclear shipbuilding technologies.

The station is equipped with two KLT-40S, which are capable of generating electricity and thermal energy in a nominal operating mode,, which is sufficient to maintain the life of the city with a population of about 100 thousands of people.

PATES is designed with a large safety margin, which exceeds all possible threats and makes nuclear reactors invulnerable to tsunami and other natural disasters. Besides, nuclear processes on the floating power unit meets all requirements of the IAEA and does not bear the threats to the environment.
