Some time ago the bmpd blog published material, which mentioned the work of the Steel Research Institute on the subject of a tracked vehicle using a power unit based on a microturbine and generator. Today the resource has additional information.
In November 2017 of the year, General Director of JSC "Research Institute of Steel" Dmitry Kupryunin said, that the company is “conducting major work on creating an electromechanical transmission”.
It already exists. Moreover, it turned out to be compact and energy-intensive, its power is 400 kW. We are creating it in cooperation with other enterprises for a universal tracked platform based on the TM-140. It will use two small turbines and an electromechanical transmission. Bench tests of the installation are already underway, and the Ministry of Defense is already showing interest in it, Kuprin told.
Recently the blog was able to obtain additional materials on this topic from the enterprise.
General layout of the machine using a power unit based on a gas turbine engine and a high-speed generator (project). The existing scientific and technical basis ensures the creation of an experimental tracked platform with a hybrid power plant and electromechanical transmission.
